~~~~ WORDS of WISDOM ~~~~
Heaven and Hell
I talked with ECK initiates in Geneva, Switzerland. It was heaven meeting with them, but the day was very hot. It made the room feel like hell. So I thought it was a good time to ask them their feelings about heaven and hell since they came into ECK.
Many of them had a biblical vision of heaven: a place of high walls with jewels embedded in the stone, and serene-faced people dressed in long robes. Mostly people walked around heaven without seeming to have any fun.
Trying to explain to them that heaven and hell are not places but states of consciousness, I said “Imagine being at a game preserve where animals such as elk, zebra, and giraffe run in their natural habitat.
“All is peaceful. The animals stand around the water hole which has the bluest water. This is a park where visitors may walk around among the animals, and there is a shelter in case an animal becomes vicious.
“This is heaven,” I said.
Then I told them, “At this point an elephant sees you and charges toward you. You run for the shelter. It’s far enough away to make it uncertain whether you’ll get there in time. As you desperately run for your life, you can hear the elephant closing in. You are just steps ahead of it.
“This is hell.”
Then I asked them to imagine making it into this shelter, slamming the door, and standing there sweating and winded.
They are back in heaven.
Heaven and hell are not places but states of consciousness. They depend on your experience in a place at a particular time.
Attention Shift
 If something is getting you down, here’s a technique that never fails to work. It’s simply a matter of raising the consciousness, of shifting the attention to the ECK and away from what is bothering you.
All you have to do is this: Stop thinking about the difficulty, whatever it is, and think about the ECK, Divine Spirit, instead. This the complete rule.
It is really just shifting the attention from one point to another.
